Western philosophers such as Plato have imagined humanity having a dual nature. (A physical body and a non-physical mind (sometimes referred to as a soul)). It is the soul that knows the world of Forms, and the body that imposes ignorance on the mindâs remembrance.
The appetite (physical desires) and will (emotional desires) are both the driving parts of the soul. Wherein the metaphorical horses of the soul drive the mind. It is rationality that allows human beings to be the rational driver of this metaphorical carriage. Personhood
